Congregating in remembrance |
A beautiful Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of
England church at Storrington to remember some 66 ladies of Province 18 of the
Catenian Association who have died in the past three years
or whose husbands remain alive and were attending the mass. The annual gathering of Catenian Brothers and
ladies, some 120 strong this year, foregathered
at the Shrine of Our Lady afterwards to recite the Angelus and bring those deceased wives of Catenian Brothers in the Province
before the Lord.
The reading of the names |
Mass was celebrated by local Parish priest Fr Charles Howell who
delivered a forceful and gripping Homily linking our need for mutual
understanding and tolerance to our need for forgiveness bound in love of
neighbour. Particular our second
reading, which included the appeal from
St Paul “If, you go snapping at each
other and tearing each other to pieces, you had better watch or you will
destroy the whole community” was skilfully woven into the experience of the
EU In or Out Referendum result the previous Thursday. Fr Charles too reminded us all that those
who go before us in His peace look to us to pray and work for them and for reconciliation.
The congregation was led by Provincial President John Goulding
of Haywards Heath Circle and Provincial Vice-President, Mike Newman of Crawley Circle, who was responsible for the days celebrations
and the tea served afterwards.
