Alternate Benny O’Shea golf Classic trophy, in aid of Sight Savers.
At Ifield Golf & Country Club, Crawley on Thursday last 8th June, the Brothers of Crawley Catenian Circle were joined by Catenians from the Province and beyond together with other interested friends from far and wide. The day was rather overcast with a chilly wind but otherwise perfect golfing weather.
The course was as usual for our events in almost perfect condition. The scoring was not particularly high but all participants expressed their enjoyment and after all that is the purpose, that we spend an enjoyable day raising money for a deserving charity.
Other supporters joined us after the golf for the conviviality, lunch, prize giving and our famous raffle where everyone gets a prize! The prestigious Alternate Benny O’Shea golf Classic trophy was won this time by Bob Sparks one of our most regular supporters. Jim Brophy was second on count back from Philip Gidman. Leon Froude won the nearest the pin competition & Philip Gidman had the longest drive. The two ladies played so well that both were awarded a prize!
Our famous raffle this year raised £255. which is amazing. Donations from those present for the golf and lunch and from those unable to attend who never the less sent a donation or raffle prize enabled us to achieve the grand sum of £673 & there may be more to come! The cash raised will be sent in the next few days to Sight Savers our charity for this year’s “ Benny”
Manus & Peter would like to thank all those involved for their help and considerable generosity in raising this significant figure for a most worthy charity.
Well done to Manus and Peter for organising!
They look forward to seeing you again for this year’s “Foley Niblick” which will be held at Rookwood Golf Club in Horsham on Thursday 7th September.
Please note this date in your diary, we want you there!

Crawley Circle Winners! Province Croquet Match
After a hard fought competition the Crawley Circle Team "Creepy Crawlies" retained the Cup and Lucy & Laurie came very close to winning in the Plate competition. Doreen and Iris performed admirably too. The Crawley teams included:
Laurie Harding & Lucy Forster: Laurie & Lucy
Iris Jordan & Doreen Newell: The Crawley Girls
Dominic Moorhouse & Mike Newman: The Creepy Crawlies
Well done to all the teams. [And special thanks to Alan Rew for the practice session tuition last week!]
The sun shone brightly, once again, upon the Provincial Croquet Competition held at the 'Sussex
County Croquet Club' in Southwick on 10th June. The event was superbly organised by Adrian
Gilbert, Haywards Heath Circle and the Sussex County Croquet Club.
A record number of Sussex Catenian Competitors took part.
Crawley were represented by Lucy Forster & Laurie Harding, Iris Jordan & Doreen Newell and Dominic Moorhouse & Mike Newman. Each pair initially played three group matches to determine whether they would progress to play their next three games in the Main or the Plate competitions.
In the main competition, Dominic Moorhouse and Mike Newman won the final to retain the Arthur McKivett Rose-Bowl for Crawley Circle (we were the winners last year as well).
The Plate competition came down to an exciting three way 'nearest the pin' shoot out. Lucy Forster looked to have won this for Crawley but lost out to the final ball of the day struck by Jill Corby for Arundel. Our hosts did us proud, with their excellent coaching, luncheon and well organised contest.
